Thought of the Week: Shabbos Teshuvah - 5781

BELIEVE IN YOM KIPPUR

When it comes to the performance of Mitzvot, two things are needed; the object, and information on how to use the object.  On Purim, for example, it is not enough to just have a Megilat Esther in our hands - we must know how to read it as well.

Yom Kippur is no different.  The day itself is like the object.  It is a very special object that can do wonders.  However, we are required to know how to use it as well.  The Rambam teaches that "Yom Kippur does not generate atonement unless one repents and believes in the atonement the day grants."

Thus, the way to use this precious day is by being mindful that it is an opportunity to clear our record and our conscience.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish the Kehilah a G'mar Chatima Tova.
