Thought of the Week: Maasei - 5774

The nine days, that commence with Rosh Chodesh Av and continue through Tisha B’av, are a period designated for self reflection and spiritual improvement.

The Talmud teaches that internal hostility brought about the destruction of the second Beit Hamikdash. This teaching in not mentioned to provide the reader of the Talmud an historical fact. It was recorded as an assignment! If Klal Yisrael is interested in a complete return to Eretz Yisrael with a spiritual hub in Yerushalaim, purging the cause of destruction and exile should be the top priority.

Over the past few days, the brave soldiers of the IDF are performing the great Mitzvah of defending Eretz Yisrael. It is incumbent upon every single one of us to pray for their welfare and health just as we would do for our own children and grandchildren.

By being concerned for the well-being of our brave fighters, we are fulfilling the Mitzvah of Ahavat Yisrael- love for every Jew- a vital good deed that can benefit our nation and provide the spiritual protection to the young soldiers who need it dearly.

May we merit the complete return to our homeland with the building of the Beit Hamikdash, and finally see the nations of the world recognize our right to the land given to our forefathers by Hashem.

Shabbat Shalom
